10 Characters We Hope Show Up in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2, subtitled "The Book of Carol" follows Norman Reedus's nominal survivor as he works his way through a post-apocalyptic France. After making some new friends in the show's freshman season, Daryl now realizes that he has also made quite a few new enemies as well.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Negan Smith and Norman Reedus stars as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead

This time around, Daryl will be joined by his old friend Carol Peletier, with Melissa McBride reprising her role from the original Walking Dead series. While Carol's return was heavily marketed, Daryl Dixon could be hiding the return of several other iconic characters from the franchise.

10 Ezekiel is in Charge of the Commonwealth Now

Ezekiel Sutton (Khary Payton) looks to the side in The Walking Dead

Character

Ezekiel Sutton

Actor

Khary Payton

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead 11x24: "Rest in Peace"

Ezekiel Sutton was once the king of the community known as the Kingdom but lost his realm at the end of The Walking Dead's ninth season. Despite his many losses and a cancer diagnosis, Ezekiel rallied his vigor and survived the events of the flagship series, becoming the new governor of the Commonwealth in the finale.

Although the events of Daryl Dixon Season 2 take place an ocean away from the Commonwealth, the reintroduction of Carol Peletier suggests that fans may see glimpses of the world back home. An appearance from Governor Ezekiel would go a long way in establishing what the Commonwealth has become under his rule. This would be great for fans, who can't help but wonder how their favorite characters are doing since The Walking Dead ended.

9 Judith and Daryl Need a Reunion

Judith Grimes from The Walking Dead wears her father's hat.

Character

Judith Grimes

Actor

Cailey Fleming

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live 1x06: "The Last Time"

After both Rick and Michonne disappeared from the main group, Daryl took their daughter, Judith Grimes, under his wing and looked out for her when no one else could. When she voiced her concern that he would leave her too, Daryl promised always to come back--but now finds himself unable to keep that promise.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 needs to deliver Daryl and Judith's reunion. Although Judith reunited with her parents after the events of The Ones Who Live, she still has one more person who promised to return to her. Perhaps by the end of the season, Daryl can honor his promise and reunite with Judith once more.

8 Merle Should Make a Posthumous Appearance in Daryl Dixon

Character

Merle Dixon

Actor

Michael Rooker

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead 3x15: "This Sorrowful Life"

Merle Dixon was Daryl's older brother with whom he always had a tenuous relationship. Although the Dixon brothers loved one another, they rarely saw eye to eye. The Governor eventually killed Merle in Season 3 of The Walking Dead, separating the brothers forever without ever giving them a proper farewell.

Over a decade after Merle's death, the character has never appeared in The Walking Dead since. However, with a story centered around Daryl, it would make sense for Merle to appear in a flashback or even as a hallucination, as he did in Season 2 of The Walking Dead. So long after his death, fans would love to revisit Michael Rooker's iconic character one more time.

7 Dr. Edwin Jenner Could Provide Valuable Insight About the Apocalypse

Dr. Edwin Jenner awaits his death as the CDC explodes in The Walking Dead

Dr. Edwin Jenner

Actor

Noah Emmerich

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead: World Beyond 2x10: "The Last Light"

Dr. Edwin Jenner, a scientist working for the CDC, is a curious character in the world of The Walking Dead. Rick's group first encountered him at the end of the flagship show's first season when they entered the CDC building in Atlanta. He died shortly thereafter when the building exploded, but made a surprise appearance via archive footage at the end of World Beyond, where he explained some surprising facts about the zombie apocalypse.

World Beyond's post-credit scene was simply meant to tease Daryl's spinoff show, but Jenner can still have an impact on the series years later. His backlog of video diaries could play a key role in explaining the new walker variations, which are becoming more common as time goes on.

6 It's Time for Morgan Jones to Reunite with the Group

Lennie James stars as Morgan Jones on Fear the Walking Dead

Character

Morgan Jones

Actor

Lennie James

Last Appearance

Fear the Walking Dead 8x06: "All I See Is Red"

Morgan Jones is one of the longest-lasting and most traveled characters in the world of The Walking Dead. First introduced in the series premiere, Morgan followed Rick's footsteps to Virginia, stayed there for a few years, then departed for Texas to join the spinoff Fear the Walking Dead. Years later, Morgan left Fear the Walking Dead shortly before its finale, once more in search of peace.

Although Lennie James may be done playing Morgan Jones over a decade after his first appearance, fans would still love for him to reunite with some of The Walking Dead's most popular characters. Getting him to France to fight alongside Daryl might be a stretch, but it would at least get Morgan into one more post-apocalyptic adventure.

5 Fans Want to See More of Michonne in The Walking Dead

Danai Gurira stars as Michonne on The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

Character

Michonne Grimes

Actor

Danai Gurira

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live 1x06: "The Last Time"

Michonne is one of The Walking Dead's most popular characters, fighting her way through the apocalypse with a samurai sword in hand. She was last seen in The Ones Who Live, wherein she fought to bring Rick back home to his family after years of separation. However, the future of the character seems uncertain.

While Danai Gurira has plenty of other projects to keep her busy, fans would love to see Michonne reunite with Daryl again. The two characters have fought side by side on many occasions and formed a memorable friendship in the original series. Now, they need to catch up, if only to exchange the stories of their separate adventures.

4 A Maggie Cameo Would Make for an Epic Crossover

Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) sits outside on The Walking Dead: Dead City

Character

Maggie Rhee

Actor

Lauren Cohan

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead: Dead City 1x06: "Doma Smo"

Lauren Cohan's Maggie Rhee is a staple of The Walking Dead. Although she disappeared for a season, she returned in full force and now leads her spinoff, Dead City, alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan. She and Negan now survive in a post-apocalyptic New York City, where they find that things are even more dangerous than they were down south.

Although Maggie is tied up in adventures on the other side of the globe, she and Daryl could find their way back to one another at some point in the upcoming season. Their reunion would make for a terrific crossover event between Daryl Dixon and Dead City, reminding fans that The Walking Dead is indeed a shared universe.

3 Connie and Daryl Have an Unexplored Romance

Connie (Lauren Ridloff) looks side-eyed at someone on The Walking Dead.

Character

Connie

Actor

Lauren Ridloff

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead 11x24: "Rest in Peace"

Connie and Daryl's friendship was a highlight of The Walking Dead's last three seasons. The show hinted that there could be romantic feelings between the two survivors, but a relationship never formed before Daryl washed ashore in France. When they last met, Connie and Daryl's feelings were left unrevealed.

The Walking Dead needs to bring closure to this arc by bringing Daryl and Connie back together. Aside from Leah Shaw, Daryl has never had a long-term romantic interest in the franchise. Bringing Connie back to finally kickstart a romance with Daryl would unlock new stories with Norman Reedus's character over a decade after his introduction.

2 Negan Smith And Daryl Dixon Still Have Unfinished Business

Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Negan on The Walking Dead: Dead City

Character

Negan Smith

Actor

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead: Dead City 1x06: "Doma Smo"

Negan Smith was one of the most treacherous enemies that the group ever faced in The Walking Dead. The leader of the villainous Saviors, Negan waged war against Rick's group, only to lose his kingdom. Surprisingly, Negan survived the events of The Walking Dead and now fights alongside his former enemy, Maggie Rhee, to survive in a post-apocalyptic New York City.

By the end of The Walking Dead, Negan and Daryl still hated each other but were able to put aside their rivalry for the greater good of their group. Now, things are different and Alexandria no longer relies on either of them. When they next meet, Daryl and Negan may need to finally put their rivalry aside for good--even if it means that one of them has to die.

1 Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon Have an Iconic Bromance

Character

Rick Grimes

Actor

Andrew Lincoln

Last Appearance

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live 1x06: "The Last Time"

As far back as the early seasons of The Walking Dead, one of the greatest friendships in the series was that between Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon. The two started as rivals but quickly forged a brotherly bond that weathered countless challenges. When Rick disappeared in Season 9, Daryl devoted his life to finding his lost brother. His search went much further than he ever anticipated, bringing him to the shores of France.

Although Daryl never found Rick, Michonne was eventually able to bring her husband back to Alexandria, reuniting him with his family. With Carol now joining him in France, Daryl will finally learn that Rick has returned, making a reunion between the two characters inevitable. Fans long to see Daryl and Rick share the screen again after six years of their separation. Hopefully, this can happen by the end of Daryl Dixon Season 2.
