One of the most interesting additions to The Last of Us Part II are the Seraphites, a cult of religious fundamentalists that antagonize Abby and some of the other protagonists throughout the game. The notes and other collectibles give a little bit of context as to how the Seraphites were founded, but this group could be seriously expanded on in The Last of Us season 2. The inner-workings of the organization and their brainwashing process should be a greater focus of the upcoming season, giving the group even more room to grow.

Ellie is gay in The Last of Us franchise, with her being one of the earlier examples of an LGBTQ+ character in a mainstream video game. Tommy's role in The Last of Us season 2 is expected to be expanded, and while he does meet up with Ellie later in the game, showing some more of his initial hunt would be a great way to further flesh out the character.

One incredibly interesting detail in The Last of Us Part II is a piece of graffiti in the aquarium made by a dead Firefly, showing that they have lost all faith in their cause. The Fireflies were a group in The Last of Us that hoped to find a cure, but after Joel decimated their hospital base, the group fell apart. Exploring how the Fireflies finally fell apart would be a great way to make the world of the franchise more lived-in while better tying in the events of The Last of Us seasons 1 and 2.

In The Last of Us Part II, Mel and Owen are side characters in Abby's storyline, with Mel being pregnant when she is killed by Ellie.
