It was another terrible night for the Bruins.
The Boston Bruins suffered an ugly 4-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night (Jan. 7). With this, they now have a 20-17-5 record and have lost five straight games.
Let's go over two main takeaways from the Bruins' brutal loss to the Oilers now.
Bruins' Offense Was Non-Existent
The Bruins played some of their worst hockey of the season during the first and second periods of this contest against the Oilers. They recorded just four shots in the first period, while the Oilers had 14, including a goal. The Bruins then had only eight shots in the second, while the Oilers had two goals on 15 shots.
While the Bruins had 14 shots in the third period and created more chances, it was simply far too late for them to make this into a game.
Jeremy Swayman Was Not The Problem
While the Bruins played a terrible game, Jeremy Swayman did his best to try to keep the Original Six club in it. In fact, he had a solid night, saving 34 out of 37 shots, which equates to a .919 save percentage.
While Swayman did not record a shutout like Stuart Skinner, he did well, especially with all of the pressure he faced.
Adam Henrique scores 2, Connor McDavid extends point streak
Adam Henrique scored two goals and Connor McDavid extended his point streak to 13 games with a power-play score midway through the second period as the Edmonton Oilers won their fourth straight game, 4-0 over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.
Stuart Skinner, who left the game late in the first period after a collision with the Bruins' Nikita Zadorov before returning at the start of the second, stopped 26 shots as the Oilers won for the 12th time in their last 15 games.
Center Leon Draisaitl’s point streak was halted at 14 games and Viktor Arvidsson added an empty-netter.
It was the Bruins’ fifth straight loss, their worst stretch since interim coach Joe Sacco took over for the fired Jim Montgomery on Nov. 19.
Henrique’s first goal made it 1-0 when he beat Jeremy Swayman with a wrist shot from the slot 6:33 into the game.
McDavid’s 16th made it 2-0 at 11:11 of the second. He has four goals and 20 assists during his streak.
Swayman made 35 saves but lost his fourth straight start.
Referee Chris Rooney, a Boston native, worked his 1,500th career game.
