After missing the entire 2024-25 season due to a back injury, forward T.J. Oshie has made his decision about his future. The 2018 Stanley Cup Champion is retiring from the NHL. Hats off to the man on an incredible journey.
Oshie Retires
Oshie last played in the 2023-24 season for the Washington Capitals. The first-round pick from 2005 scored 12 goals in 52 games. In nine seasons with the Capitals, Oshie scored 192 goals recorded 385 points. His best season came in 2016-17 when he scored 33 goals and recorded 56 points.
Prior to his time with the Caps, Oshie spent his first seven seasons with the St. Louis Blues. In those seven seasons, Oshie scored 110 goals and helped the Blues make the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. It was also with the Blues that Oshie gained global attention for his performance in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Playing for Team USA, Oshie went 4-6 in a shootout, including multiple game-tying goals and the eventual game-winner.
Oshie’s time with the Blues and Capitals intertwined at the 2020 All-Star Game. As a Capital, Oshie was elected to the game in St. Louis. Oshie’s only All-Star selection to date came in the city where his career started. Furthermore, during the Skill’s Competition, Oshie shared a special moment with his father, Tim. T.J. waved at his father from the bench. Tim, who died 2021, had been battling Alzheimer’s since 2012, but was at the All-Star Game for his son as well as celebrated with him in 2018 when the Capitals won the Stanley Cup.
Oshie Retires After Contemplating Return
Despite missing an entire year. Oshie had contemplated to returning to the ice. The past three seasons Oshie has played in, he has played no more than 52 games.
At 38-years old, it would be difficult for him to return to action, despite his determination to return.

Oshie ends his career with 1,010 games played. He scored 302 goals and recorded 393 assists for a total of 695 points.
