49ers Accused of 'Penny-Pinching' on Brock Purdy Contract Talks

The San Francisco 49ers need to get a deal done with Brock Purdy much faster than they are currently moving.

The San Francisco 49ers have an aging roster of stars, a team coming off a 6-11 disappointment of a season, and now a quarterback who wants to be paid.

Brock Purdy has had some of the best couple of seasons to start his NFL career. He's gone 23-13 as a starter, has been to the Pro Bowl, and played well in his lone Super Bowl appearance.

The numbers and wins alone show a quarterback who is worth to be paid among the highest across the NFL.

Except even with the 49ers and owner Jed York looking to do everything in their power to bring him on a long-term deal, there's a reason why they haven't at this point in the offseason.

"I've been in situations where you have a great roster and the quarterback isn't set, and it's hard to have sustained success," York said at league meetings. "We want to make sure that Brock is a long-term partner. We want to make sure that he's a part of our team for a long time.

"It's a decision -- I don't know exactly when we made it -- but it was sometime in the middle of the season, knowing that you can start negotiating at the end of the third year, and it's like, 'All right, he's our guy.' And if he's our guy, you have to know that and make those decisions, and that's where we are right now."

San Fran is balancing the idea of potentially making Purdy a $50 million a year quarterback with a roster that clearly needs reinforcements at so many positions.

And with the way things look right now, there's no easy solution for the franchise or Purdy.
