The San Francisco 49ers’ 35-10 Week 13 loss to the Buffalo Bills was costly in more ways than one.
Not only did it make San Francisco’s fight for the playoffs all the more difficult from last place in the NFC West, but it also depleted their running back depth with Christian McCaffrey landing on injured reserve and likely out for the rest of the season and Jordan Mason, the team’s leading rusher, also likely to be placed on IR as well.
“I just feel for [McCaffrey],” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters. “It was a real frustrating year for him. He worked his [expletive] off to get back to this point and I think he was really feeling good and about to take off.
“He just had that real unfortunate injury last night. I know he's as crushed as anyone, but he'll get through this. He's a hell of a player, a hell of a person and an unbelievable 49er. And he'll be back stronger than ever next year to help us.”

The Jets kept Abanikanda last season over Michael Carter, who was cut last November and signed with the Arizona Cardinals the next day. Abanikanda rushed for 70 yards on 22 carries as a rookie.
Vaughn spent four seasons with the Bucs, rushing for 384 yards and two touchdowns on 102 carries and added 14 catches for 81 yards and another score. He has more value as a receiver out of the backfield while Abanikanda is the better pure runner.
