The New York Jets are under two weeks away from their Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Coming off of an overtime Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers are missing some crucial offensive players in the practices leading up to the matchup.
All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams has been holding out from the team as he attempts to negotiate a reworked contract, while wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been in the building, but has also not attended practices as he looks to negotiate a massive extension.
Despite both players still not attending practice with Week 1 quickly approaching, Jets coach Robert Saleh is having his team prepare for both of them to be on the field when the teams face off.
"I fully expect Trent Williams to walk on the field and still be his All-Pro self with a newly minted contract and Aiyuk, I'm sure he'll be there," Saleh said. "With or without them, they're still a championship roster and they've got some dudes all over their roster. It's going to be a fun game and going to be a great challenge."
The 49ers are not the only team in the matchup dealing with holdouts, as Saleh is still hoping that linebacker Haason Reddick will join the team and suit up for the game as well.Regardless of who plays on both sides, the Jets are hoping for a strong start to their season when they take on the 49ers for Monday Night Football on Sept. 8.
