49ers Deebo Samuel expected to play in Week 4 Patriots clash
After spending the last week on the shelf with an ankle injury, San Francisco 49ers fans have been afforded some pretty incredible news regarding Deebo Samuel's Week 4 status, as, after being questionable all week, he's going to be active against the New England Patriots according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
“Source: 49ers WR Deebo Samuel plans to play Sunday vs the Patriots,” Schultz wrote on social media. “The All-Pro has 13 catches for 164 yards and a rushing touchdown in two games this season. Samuel (calf) is listed as questionable.”
Great stuff, but how could this be, considering Kyle Shanahan noted that Samuel would be out for multiple weeks? Well, according to Schultz, again, there really is no trick to it: Samuel is just a quick healer.
Returning to the field for practice this week, Samuel was always expected to be a game-time decision in Week 4, with the star receiver remaining questionable as recently as Friday, but the news is welcomed nonetheless, as the 49ers' depth was challenged pretty harshly by the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, with Brock Purdy and company earning their first loss of the year despite “Mr. Irrelevant” completing 22 of his 30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns.
Will the 49ers be able to right their wrongs against the Patriots in Week 4? While only time will tell, it's pretty safe to assume the winning ways may resume for Shanahan and company moving forward, as outside of a surprising win in Week 1 over the Cincinnati Bengals – who haven't won a single game yet this season – the Patriots have been looking worse and worse with each passing week of the 2024 NFL season.
