The San Francisco 49ers are electing Brent Jones to their Hall of Fame.

The San Francisco 49ers and the York family announced on Monday that the 49ers would be inducting a 33rd member to their Hall of Fame. Former tight end Brent Jones will become the 33rd inductee into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame.

“Receiving the call from Jed [York] was incredibly emotional for me, something that I will remember forever,” Jones said in a statement. “It is truly the greatest honor of my life to be alongside the legends that comprise the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame, one of the greatest franchises in all of professional sports. I want to sincerely thank my coaches and the teammates who poured into me and allowed me to be successful on and off the field.”

Jones suited up for the 49ers from 1987-98, appearing in 143 games, 126 of which were starts. He hauled in 417 receptions for 5,195 yards and 33 touchdowns. Jones also made appearances in 21 postseason games, starting 19 of them. In the playoffs, Jones caught 60 passes for 740 yards and five touchdowns, en route to three Super Bowl rings.

Jones was a four-time Pro Bowl selection from 1993-96 and was named second-team All-Pro in 1993 and 1994.

During his four Pro Bowl seasons, Jones averaged 56 receptions, 657 yards and five touchdowns per season.

He ranks third in franchise history in receptions (417), receiving yards (5,195) and receiving touchdowns (33) among tight ends. Among all players, Jones is in the top 10 all-time in franchise history in receptions, where he ranks seventh, receiving yards, where he is ninth, and he is 10th in receiving touchdowns.

Drafted in the fifth round of the 1986 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, he spent one season with the franchise, being cut a month into the regular season while recovering from a herniated disc, never appearing in a game for the Steelers. Jones was picked up by his hometown 49ers and never suited up for another football team, spending the entirety of his career in San Francisco. Some of Jones' best football came when it mattered most, he caught a touchdown pass in each of the 49ers' three playoff games in the 1989 postseason en route to a Super Bowl.
