University of California linebacker Teddye Buchanan participated last week in the San Francisco 49ers' local pro day. In addition to his on-field workout, the team conducted a separate virtual interview with the standout defender, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network.
Buchanan transferred to Cal from UC Davis in 2024 and made an immediate impact in his lone season with the Golden Bears. He recorded an impressive 114 tackles (12 for a loss), five sacks, four passes defensed, and two forced fumbles, per Sports Reference. His performance earned him first-team All-ACC honors.
A participant at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Buchanan measured 6-foot-2 and 233 pounds and posted a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, a 40-inch vertical jump, and a 10-foot-5 broad jump.
The 49ers are looking to bolster their linebacker corps following Dre Greenlaw's departure to the Denver Broncos in free agency.
NFL.com projects Buchanan as a fifth- or sixth-round pick in this year's draft.
When asked by Melo about the kind of impact he hopes to make in the NFL, Buchanan responded, "I'm going to be a positive addition to the culture. I'm a leader and a hard worker. I'm going to help improve the culture in our room. As far as my ability on the field, I feel like I'll be able to make an instant impact. I can help create turnovers."
He added, "I want to help a team win a Super Bowl. That's ultimately what I'm excited to do. I'm excited to get things going."
