Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers are currently locked into a contract situation. The two sides have not seemingly made much progress on the massive extension that will soon be coming the quarterback's way.
It has been reported that Purdy would like to be paid close to $55-$60 million. So far, the 49ers have not been willing to meet him there.
That has led to speculation that San Francisco could open up to trade offers for Purdy at some point down the road. Even though that scenario seems unlikely, stranger things have happened.
A 49ers insider has urged one surprising NFC team to come calling about Purdy.
Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated has pushed the New Orleans Saints to pull off a trade for Purdy. He thinks the Saints should offer the No. 9 overall pick and then turn around and offer the quarterback a deal worth $60 million.
"Brock Purdy isn’t just a good QB, he’s a great QB. He is a top 5 QB in the league, and the 49ers just don’t appreciate what he brings to the table," Cohn said. "They should call the Niners and offer them... maybe the first-round pick. Offer the ninth pick and then pay Brock Purdy $60,000,000, because you don’t get the opportunity to get a QB like that very much."
Of course, the Saints have now come up as a potential trade suitor due to the recent news about Derek Carr. As reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Carr is in danger of missing the 2025 season due to a shoulder injury.
Purdy is coming off of a 2024 season that saw him play in 15 regular season games. He completed 65.9% of his pass attempts for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. In addition, he ran for 323 yards and five more scores.
