49ers make a statement in 32-19 victory over the Jets

Both the offense and the defense impressed, while Jake Moody kicked more than you would have liked to see.

Jordan Mason Carries the 49ers to a 32-19 Win Over the Jets

This was anticipated to be a clash of titans. The New York Jets were unable to halt the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive onslaught, with the Niners scoring on eight consecutive drives following their initial punt.

Despite a single drive in the third quarter slipping away, Brock Purdy’s resilience shone through. He was a standout performer, consistently making plays within the offensive structure. Purdy’s final stats of 19-for-29 for 231 yards, with an average of eight yards per attempt, are a testament to his determination.

Jauan Jennings led the 49ers in receiving yards with 64, but it was even across the board as Deebo Samuel had 54, Kyle Juszczyk had 40, and George Kittle had 40. The receiver the 49ers invested heavily in, Brandon Aiyuk, only had 28 yards, but it looked like a rusty game for him as he struggled to find his rhythm and connection with the quarterback.

For all of those weapons, tonight was about Jordan Mason, who ran for 147 yards on 28 carries. After a slow start, where they struggled to find their momentum, the offensive line cranked it up and established their will both on the ground and and by keeping Purdy clean.

The 49ers’ defense was a force to be reckoned with. They held Aaron Rodgers to a mere 167 passing yards and the Jets to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry, only slightly bumped up to 3.4 on the final drive. Garrett Wilson managed 52 yards, and Breece Hall was kept under 100 yards from scrimmage. This was a significant win for the 49ers, especially with Nick Sorensen’s successful debut as a coordinator.

The 49ers did only go 2-for-5 in the red zone offensively, and needed Jake Moody to kick six field goals. Defensively, they allowed the Jets to convert on 60 percent of their tries. Those are the two areas the 49ers need to clean up in an otherwise impressive statement victory over a team that’s perceived to be the best in the league.
