San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will start Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills. Purdy was originally listed as questionable due to his right shoulder injury, but didn't experience any setbacks Friday or Saturday.
Backup Brandon Allen stepped in for Purdy last week against the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers sank below .500 with a 38-10 beat down at Lambeau Field.
Purdy will be playing without the starting left side of the offensive line against the Bills. It's certainly a tough task for Purdy as his team's playoff hopes are quickly diminishing.
"Love to have your guys that are starting, but I mean, that's the NFL," Purdy said. "I have all the trust in the world in the players we have behind our starters. Jaylon Moore has done a great job coming in (against the Packers), and Ben Bartch we know has had a history of playing as a starter in the NFL. That's part of the game. Guys get banged up, guys get thrown in."
Along with Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, Deommodore Lenoir, and Dre Greenlaw will also sit out of the 49ers' primetime game against the Bills. Missing starters won't be the only challenge for San Francisco as the Week 13 matchup is expected to have about a foot of snow on the ground by kickoff.
Much of the 49ers fanbase have been frustrated with the organization's struggles this season. General manager John Lynch shared his thoughts on why the 49ers are 5-6 just a season after playing in the Super Bowl.
"I don't think we're playing clean," Lynch told NBC Sports. "When I watch practice, we play very hard. And there's anyone who challenges the work ethic of this team, our work habits, we're well coached. For whatever reason, we haven't been a very disciplined football team, and that goes down to the very end in terms of finishing.
"Everybody knows what has ailed us thus far, three division games where we've been up in the fourth quarter. When you're a good team, you have to put people away. Everybody in this league has good players. Everybody in this league has a lot of pride. And frankly, when you're in the Super Bowl last year, everybody's gunning for you, and we've experienced that, and we haven't handled that well to this point."
The 49ers will have to defeat one of the best team's in the AFC without several starters, an ongoing theme this season for San Francisco.
