On the bubble: Jalen Graham and other 49ers face final chance to earn their spot - The Athletic

Rohan’s update, 1:33 p.m PT: Second-year linebacker Jalen Graham has been waived, according to the SF Chronicle’s Eric Branch. Additionally, tackle Chris Hubbard is not expected to make the initial 53-man roster, according to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.

Rohan’s update, 12:44 p.m PT: Cornerback Samuel Womack is being waived, per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. Womack was a part of a deep cornerback room, where some cuts had to be made. We’ll see how many the 49ers end up keeping in that room.

Kyle’s update, 11:45 a.m. PT: Tight ends Cam Latu, and Brayden Willis were waived, per The Athletic’s Matt Barrows. Kyle Juszczyk is the real TE2, while Logan Thomas can also fill in. Barrows said it was a surprising move, but neither Latu nor Willis provided anything in the running game.

Rohan’s update, 11:32 a.m. PT: The 49ers have waived wide receiver Danny Gray, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Gray, a 2021 third-round pick, made just one catch in his 49ers career over three seasons.

Marc’s update, 11:08 a.m. PT: The 49ers have cut wide receiver Robbie Chosen, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Chosen was a notable mid-training camp addition, having amassed over 5,000 career receiving yards over his eight-year career. However, his production has steadily declined since his lone 1,000-yard season in 2020. He remains a candidate for the practice squad.

Rohan’s update, 10:57 a.m. PT: The 49ers have waived undrafted free agent quarterback Tanner Mordecai, per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The expectation is that Mordecai will return to the practice squad, should he clear waivers.

Kyle’s update, 10:49 a.m. PT: The 49ers officially announced the release of running back Matt Breida. Running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn was also released. The following three players were waived:

P Pressley Harvin III
OL Lewis Kidd
WR Jontre Kirklin

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the San Francisco 49ers released their first player as roster cuts get underway. Running back Matt Breida has been released.

Breida was recently signed as more of a training camp body when rookie Isaac Guerendo was injured, and the same was true with Elijah Mitchell.

Mitchell remains sidelined, but Guerendo more than earned his roster spot when he made his debut this past Friday in the preseason and took a kick return for a touchdown.

Breida ended up playing 72 snaps for the 49ers this preseason, where he had 15 carries for 33 yards. If he were going to make the Niners roster, Breida would have needed to average more than 2.2 yards per carry and 1.73 yards after contact. Only one of his 15 carries went for a first down.

Breida did have a 21-yard reception in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, but he also only had two other receptions. We’ll see if Breida is brought back to the practice squad.
