49ers S Talanoa Hufanga is questionable for Sunday after rolling his ankle at practice

George Kittle and Brock Purdy are off the injury report

Talanoa Hufanga details ACL injury recovery but still faces uncertain future

The San Francisco 49ers saw Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Dee Winters, Jacob Cowing, and Jordan Elliott all practice on Friday. General manager John Lynch said it would be a big day for Deebo to determine whether he’d play in Week 4 against the New England Patriots.

Kyle Shanahan gave the final injury report after Friday’s practice:

QUESTIONABLE

WR Deebo Samuel (calf strain)

LB Dee Winters (ankle)

DT Jordan Elliott (foot)

S Talanoa Hufanga (ankle)

LT Trent Williams (toe sore)

Williams missed Wednesday’s session with an illness, but came in this morning with some soreness in his toe after, “it acted up a little bit in practice yesterday. It was too sore for him to go today.”

Given how Williams has been struggling to work himself himself back into peak conditioning form after missing training camp and the preseason, minor injuries and ailments will make it harder for him to catch up.

George Kittle told the media he’s “very excited to play football” and that he’s “feeling fantastic” on Thursday. I think we can expect No. 85 to be back in action. He’s not on the injury report. Shanahan said, “he’s looked good this week.”

Brock Purdy was not on the injury report. Purdy was dealing with a back injury earlier in the week.

Hufanga rolled his ankle during Thursday’s practice. That’s why he’s listed. Talanoa’s extensive injury history makes anything new always troubling. We will see if Malik Mustapha shares time with Hufanga if he’s not 100 percent.

Shanahan also revealed that linebacker Curtis Robinson is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL during Thursday’s practice. A key special teamer, Robinson’s absence only puts more focus on Winters’ status.
