49ers Sign Former Chiefs Super Bowl Champion After Free Agency Exodus

The San Francisco 49ers will have a new-look roster for the 2025 season, that's for sure.

On Monday, the 49ers lost a plethora of key players in free agency, including star linebacker Dre Greenlaw, veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward, backup quarterback Josh Dobbs and former All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga. They also parted ways with Pro Bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk.

Before this mass exodus took place, the 49ers traded away Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders. They only received a fifth-round pick in return.

While the 49ers have plenty of work to do in order to become an NFC powerhouse once again, they made an interesting signing on Tuesday night.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers have signed veteran wide receiver Demarcus Robinson to a two-year, $9.5 million contract. The deal includes $6 million fully guaranteed.

Ironically enough, Robinson was on the Kansas City Chiefs when they defeated the 49ers to win Super Bowl LIV.

Robinson knows the NFC West fairly well at this point in his career. After all, he spent the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Despite not having a featured role in Sean McVay's offense, he hauled in 31 passes for 505 yards and seven touchdowns this past season.

It's unclear what role Robinson will play in Kyle Shanahan's offense. He'll join a wide receiver room that features Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall.

Robinson isn't the only player who signed a deal with the 49ers on Tuesday. They also agreed to terms on a deal with former New York Giants safety Jason Pinnock. He played 95 percent of the team's snaps last year, racking up 85 tackles and three sacks.

Only time will tell if the 49ers can bounce back from their disappointing 2024 season.
