Johnson signed with the 49ers practice squad last week, and made a strong impression on the team leading up to inking a futures deal as the NFL offseason gets underway.

The 27-year-old Johnson originally signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State, following the 2020 NFL Draft. Johnson, however, never played a snap for Green Bay.Ezoic

Now a five-year veteran, Johnson has spent time on the practice squads of the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and now the 49ers throughout the course of his career. He also played for the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL last spring during the 2024 season.

Johnson garnered All-UFL honors this past season before signing with the Browns’ practice squad.

Now, this offseason, and potentially into next spring and training camp, Johnson will have the opportunity to win a roster spot to provide quality depth for a 49ers team aiming to bounce back from one of the franchise’s more disappointing and injury-riddled seasons in recent memory.
