49ers to Acquire Eagles Star Pass Rusher Bryce Huff in Blockbuster Trade

The San Francisco 49ers are pulling off a massive blockbuster trade, as it's been announced that the team is finalizing a deal to land star pass rusher Bryce Huff from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The trade itself cannot be processed until June 1, but this is going to be a massive pickup for the 49ers.

The details of the trade have not been divulged, but the report from Adam Schefter indicates Huff is being moved for a mid-round pick. The round has not been specified, though it would be believed that it could be a third or fourth round.

The Eagles have also likely moved Huff due to owing him about $17 million on the season, but that number has been drastically lowered due to the trade. Philadelphia will be on the hook for $9.05 million, while the 49ers will take on the remaining $7.95 million, according to Schefter.

Huff joining the 49ers makes a lot of sense, as he will now reunite with Robert Saleh. Saleh returned to serve as the defensive coordinator for San Francisco. Saleh and Huff worked together as members of the New York Jets.

Huff played with the Jets from 2020 to 2023 and signed a three-year deal with the Eagles in 2024.

Huff was meant to be a cornerstone pass rusher on the Eagles, but suffered a torn ligament in his wrist, leading to missing a total of five weeks.

The Jets signed Huff as an undrafted free agent in 2020, and he brought in 17.5 sacks, 65 tackles, and 43 quarterback hits.

Huff's best season was in 2023, when he secured 10 sacks and 29 tackles. The hope was that he would secure double-digit sacks in 2024, but the torn ligament in his hand prevented him from making a big mark.

Huff ended the 2024 season with 2.5 sacks, appearing in 12 games.

The 49ers got a major pass rusher in Huff, and he should do well to boost a unit that struggled in the 2024 season. San Francisco ended last season with a total of 37 team sacks, which is near the bottom of the entire league.

Despite Nick Bosa coming in with nine sacks, the rest of the team only managed a collective 28 more.

The good news is that Bosa and Huff should turn into one of the best units in the NFL. With both being presumably healthy, the 49ers are going to have a far more dangerous pass rush.
