49ers trade idea sends two major assets to Dolphins for Tyreek Hill originally appeared on The Sporting News
The San Francisco 49ers need help at the wide receiver position with injuries to Brandon Aiyuk (knee), Jauan Jennings (calf), Jacob Cowing (hamstring), and Jordan Watkins (high ankle). As a result, could a trade for the Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill be an option?
Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski broke down potential destinations for Hill and the kind of trade packages the Dolphins might receive in return. When it comes to the 49ers, they could be giving up two assets in a potential trade for Hill.
Dolphins trade: Tyreek Hill
49ers trade: WR Jauan Jennings and 2026 sixth-round draft pick
"After securing quarterback Brock Purdy's long-term future, the organization should pursue any avenue toward finally pushing the Niners over the top before the contract starts to massively escalate in the coming years," Sobleski wrote.
"With Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from last year's knee injury and Jauan Jennings demanding a new contract, San Francisco can change its wide receiver room in one fell swoop by trading for Hill, who automatically becomes the squad's No. 1 target at the onset of the 2025 season."
In two of his three seasons in Miami, Hill has recorded over 1,700 receiving yards and seven or more touchdowns. As a result, Hill would push Aiyuk into the No. 2 role and give Purdy a bona fide No. 1 target that he can look for as an alternative to George Kittle.
As for the Dolphins, in this scenario, they lose Hill but get a 28-year-old Jennings who would be scratching the surface of his potential. Last season, he had career highs in receptions (77), receiving yards (975), and touchdowns (6). Jennings would be an ideal No. 2 alongside Jaylen Waddle.
"Jennings brings a unique skill set in Shanahan's system, which Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel knows quite well, yet he lacks the explosiveness and field-tilting capabilities Hill presents to change the 49ers' offensive complexion," Sobleski added.
"Conversely, the Dolphins can rid themselves of Hill, bring back San Francisco's top receiver from last season, get a little younger and almost certainly save money even with a contract extension for Jennings being a part of the bargain."
