The San Francisco 49ers aren’t in the best position, at least on paper, entering the season. In fact, one can make a strong argument that the 49ers should be worse than they’ve been in years past.
Fortunately for the organization, they have a much easier schedule than usual, so if things go as planned in that regard, the 49ers can still be very good. There’s also the element that the 49ers have dealt with multiple injuries over the past few years, and as long as they’re healthy, they can be one of the better teams in the NFL.
However, their wide receiver room isn’t exactly anything to write home about, and that’s somewhat concerning entering the year. Some believe that the 49ers need to make a trade, including Newsweek, which recently proposed the idea of sending Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins to the 49ers.
“Plenty of rumors have swirled around Hill throughout the 2025 NFL offseason. While he is still currently on the Dolphins, a trade in the future would not be shocking.
“His vocal comments have damaged his relationship with Tua Tagovailoa, which could lead to his future departure. Of course, if he is placed on the trade block, most teams around the league would have some level of interest in pursuing him. Hill could be playing his final season with Miami. In fact, he could become a potential trade deadline target if the Dolphins don’t look like a contender early on in the year. Potential Trade Destinations: 49ers, Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Packers,” Evan Massey wrote.
Would a Hill Trade Be Worth the Niners’ While?
There’s a lot that the San Francisco 49ers would have to consider if they want Hill.
While Hill is an incredible player and was on the brink of posting 2,000 yards before getting injured during the 2023-24 season with the Miami Dolphins, the 49ers don’t want to deal with players who come with a ton of drama.
He’ll not only come with drama off the field, but he also made some very telling comments during the Dolphins’ final game last season when they were eliminated from the postseason. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa didn’t take those comments lightly, seemingly calling Hill out during the beginning of training camp.
“It’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that,” Tagovailoa said, per ESPN. “A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek that are fans of his — everyone has seen that. So, when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You got to work that relationship up; you’ve got to build everything back up again.”
Has Hill Changed His Ways From Last Season?
Hill might’ve changed his ways, and from his response to Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins, it seems like that, but there’s a long history that the San Francisco 49ers have to factor in here.
At the end of the day, the 49ers want to win football games, and he’ll help them with that, but there’s more that comes with the All-Pro than just football.
“I think the most important thing is being consistent. Coming out here everyday, being consistent. Just trying to get back to that old for of myself. I think it’s very important, just holding myself accountable. Tua’s comments were needed. He is obviously the leader of our team. He sets the standard,” Hill stated.
