The San Francisco 49ers haven't been listed as potential suitors for disgruntled Las Vegas receiver Davante Adams, but a well-known columnist believes it's an opportunity the defending NFC West champions shouldn't overlook.
Adams, who is in his 11th NFL season, has informed the Raiders that he would like to be traded. He's currently sidelined with a hamstring injury but has a strong resume that includes three first-team All-Pro selections and six Pro Bowls.
San Francisco Chronicle columnist Michael Silver thinks the 49ers should pounce on the opportunity to acquire Adams - and be willing to give up Brandon Aiyuk to make it happen.
"Hear me out: Bring the kid from East Palo Alto home and put him in a scarlet and gold uniform, while sending Aiyuk, a former high school star in Reno, back to the Silver State," Silver said. "How is this not win-win?"
Silver cites certain elements that could hold up a deal, including cap implications and personalities. However, per Silver, acquiring Adams to spark the offense could be just what the 49ers need.
"None of that should dissuade the 49ers from trying to acquire one of the best receivers of his generation," Silver said. "Adams is unparalleled when it comes to separating from defenders off the line of scrimmage and running precise routes; he's also a hyper-intelligent player who could assimilate Shanahan's sophisticated system. He's an effective and willing blocker, too.
"As with 2022, when the struggling 49ers energized their team by trading for Christian McCaffrey, this is a moment they shouldn't let pass."
After a long, public dispute this offseason, the 49ers signed Aiyuk to a four-year, $120 million extension ahead of the season. He has just 13 catches for 167 yards through four games.
