49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk's expected return date revealed

Following Monday's practice, San Francisco 49ers'  head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update  on when receiver Brandon Aiyuk could return from the ACL injury he suffered last season. The nine-year head coach told reporters he expects Aiyuk to return around Week 6.

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk's expected return date revealed

Aiyuk is likely to be placed on the PUP list at some point before the start of the regular season, which would guarantee the 27-year-old wideout to be out for at least the first four games of the 2025 season.

Injuries, specifically to the receiving depth chart, have piled up for the 49ers this offseason. With Jauan Jennings (calf), Demarcus Robinson (likely facing a suspension), Jordan Watkins (high-ankle sprain) and Jacob Cowing (hamstring), Ricky Pearsall is the only notable receiver who looks primed to start Week 1. Aiyuk's expected absence only adds more trouble for Brock Purdy and the offense.

If Shanahan's timeline is accurate, Aiyuk could miss games against the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams before making his season debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Although it is expected for Aiyuk to miss an extended period, it is certainly not ideal for San Francisco, which is depleted at the wide receiver position.
