A Sheriff Country and Fire Country crossover is difficult due to this one major reason

The world of network television crossovers is no stranger to bold moves, but a potential crossover between Fire Country and Sheriff Country might not be as easy to pull off as it sounds. With both shows rooted in the high-stakes landscape of emergency response, fans have been hoping for some shared screen time. Especially since Sheriff Country is a direct spinoff of Fire Country, and both exist under the CBS umbrella.

Despite the franchise connection and similar small-town settings, a surprisingly complicated barrier is standing in the way of this crossover dream. And it’s not about ratings, cast availability, or even storyline logistics. It's about the location.

Back in April, Fire Country star Max Thieriot told TVLine that Sheriff Country, the show’s first spinoff, would be filmed in Toronto, over 2,000 miles away from Fire Country’s production base in Vancouver. This major geographical gap makes crossovers tricky, especially since both shows will air back-to-back on CBS Friday nights. Thieriot admitted it will be“challenging,” though crossovers are still in the plans.

Diane Farr, who plays Sharon, echoed the sentiment, noting that they film on“opposite ends” of Canada. Still, Thieriot remains optimistic, saying, “Nothing’s impossible.” Hence, the location difference finally explains the unusual split.

Actress Morena Baccarin opened up about why Sheriff Country was shot in Toronto during an episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, as she said,

“I said to them, ‘This is a no-brainer for me, but I cannot shoot in Vancouver.' There’s, like, no way that my family survives, with three kids in New York City. [There’s no way] that this could work.”

Enter Sheriff Country, the franchise’s first official spinoff, starring Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox, Sharon Leone’s stepsister. The series was introduced via a backdoor pilot in Fire Country season 2 and is set in the same fictional town of Edgewater. Mickey’s story delves into local law enforcement, a family-run illegal weed business, a daughter struggling with addiction, and her complicated relationship with ex-husband Travis, played by Christopher Gorham. Matt Lauria co-stars as her new deputy partner.
