Aaron Rodgers could break alarming Pittsburgh Steelers trend

Could Aaron Rodgers be the quarterback that ultimately breaks the Pittsburgh Steelers’ playoff win drought?

That is what former NFL cornerback Jason McCourty believes. Pittsburgh, a franchise with a proud history of postseason success, has gone eight years without a win in the playoffs.

McCourty cites Rodgers’ pedigree and experience in those situations as reasons why he could push the Steelers over the edge to snap that streak.

“You think about the last few years, they haven’t been able to win a playoff game. I think they can win a playoff game with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback playing in a divisional round of the playoffs,” McCourty said. “I think you look at what he did last year, and I think his body of work, even with the New York Jets a year ago, was better than any of the quarterbacks that the Pittsburgh Steelers have had in recent years.”

Rodgers had 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 2024. He went just 5-12 in his starts with the Jets, and even after they acquired Davante Adams, went just 3-8. It was a tough season for Rodgers, who also had multiple leg injuries.

The Steelers think something remains in the tank for the former four-time MVP. They have zeroed in on him as their target, and even though he has yet to give them an answer yet, the top brass believes he will sign with them.
