Aaron Rodgers is again at the center of NFL buzz, this time as a free agent weighing his next move. After a short-lived run with the New York Jets that ended due to injury, the 41-year-old quarterback is looking for a team to close out his legendary career. And right now, all signs seem to be pointing toward the Pittsburgh Steelers. Team owner Art Rooney II previously said that “all signs are positive,” and head coach Mike Tomlin is in no rush, keeping the door open for Rodgers’ arrival.
If Rodgers does land in Pittsburgh, it could be a major blow to rookie quarterback Will Howard’s hopes of starting in 2025. The Ohio State product is currently slotted behind Mason Rudolph, but if Rodgers joins the fold, Howard’s path to the field gets even murkier.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Howard told Up and Adams. “But I’d love to be in a room and learn from him.”
Rodgers, however, seems to be having fun with the speculation. At a recent event, when asked if he'd ever play for the Chicago Bears, he joked, “No, but I believe there's a team that might play in Chicago this year.”
When pressed further, he shrugged, “I don’t know. Gotta check it out… I love Chicago though. Way more than they love me.”
That cryptic comment only fueled talk that he was hinting at the Steelers, who are scheduled to play in Chicago this season. While Rodgers could simply be trolling, as he often does with Bears fans, the possibility of a black and gold future grows stronger. And for Will Howard, that future may come with a long wait.
