The Pittsburgh Steelers have quite a few different directions they could choose to go in the 2025 NFL draft. On one hand, they could pass on a quarterback and shore up another area of need. However, they badly need a starting quarterback.
With Aaron Rodgers still not making a decision on what he wants to do, the Steelers are playing with fire. If they continue waiting, they could get burned.
To that end, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter has issued a major update about the team's draft plans. Pittsburgh might take a quarterback after all.
"Sources said the Steelers had not been planning to draft a quarterback in Round 1, but they also were not expecting Sanders to fall out of top 10. Now, all options seem to be on the table, and they are preparing in case they have the option to draft Sanders," Schefter wrote.
Sanders landing in Pittsburgh would be a big win for a franchise that badly needs a 2025 starting quarterback.
Throughout his college career, Sanders continually and consistently put up huge numbers. He didn't play against elite competition much, but he took care of business.
In his four total college seasons, he completed 70.1% of his pass attempts for 14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions.
No one can take anything away from those numbers. His ability to take care of the football was extremely impressive and he can make any throw necessary.
Should he slip all the way to pick No. 21, the Steelers would be making a huge mistake by not taking him. There is a very real chance that he could be the long-term franchise quarterback Pittsburgh needs.
Fans won't have to wait much longer to find out, as the first round of the 2025 NFL draft is set to begin on Thursday night.
