The Detroit Lions got 4.5 sacks and five total tackles from defensive end and former number two overall pick Aidan Hutchinson vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a losing effort on Sunday, causing the rest of the NFL to stand up and take notice.
Hutchinson was voted to his first-ever Pro Bowl last season and has been challenged to take the next step with the Lions' Super Bowl hopes hanging in the balance.
So far, the ex-Michigan Wolverine and Plymouth, Michigan native has stepped up to the plate.
He now has more sacks than more than half of all teams in the National Football League and is leading the NFL with 5.5 sacks on the season through two games.
His 5.5 sack total is 1.5 more than Pat Jones II of the Minnesota Vikings, who currently resides in second place.
Hutchinson's current sack total is greater than that of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Commanders.
The 6-foot-7, 268-pound defensive end has a tall task ahead of him this weekend with the 1-1 Lions headed to Arizona to take on Kyler Murray, Marvin Harrison Jr. and the surging Cardinals, who shocked the football world with a 41-10 win over Matthew Stafford and the Rams on Sunday.
