It appears the Red Sox won’t have to find a quick option at first base following an injury scare Wednesday.

Alex Cora Offers Encouraging Injury Update On Red Sox Infielder

Romy González left Boston’s win over the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park in the sixth inning after a scary collision with Josh Smith at first base. Abraham Toro finished the game in relief of the veteran.

Alex Cora told reporters Thursday that González was “sore” but doing OK, per The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey. The Red Sox manager believes the 28-year-old will be good to go for a weekend series against the Kansas City Royals.

The update provided a sigh of relief for Red Sox Nation as González’s injury scare came a week after Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury. It also came amid questions about how Boston would address first base. Cora was confident González and Toro, but other internal and external options remain on the table.

Toro started for González in the series finale against the Rangers on Thursday. Full coverage of the matchup on NESN starts at 12:30 p.m. ET.
