Despite the early spring training struggles, the Boston Red Sox are still very high on Kristian Campbell.
Campbell started 1-for-14 in his first spring training campaign after Monday. Manager Alex Cora sent a message of confidence to the 22-year-old, who is still competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Cora’s confidence in the club’s No. 2 prospect continued Tuesday. The Red Sox manager compared Campbell to Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown, per WEEI’s Rob Bradford.
“In other words, unorthodox but when game starts get job done,” Bradford posted on X.
An unconventional comparison, but it sounds like Cora and his staff understand how unique of a talent Campbell is. The 2023 fourth-round pick made strides with his swing that led to his explosive offensive production in the minors. Campbell also showed off his defensive versatility when he displayed his skills in the infield and outfield.

The Red Sox would be thrilled if Campbell ascended to one of the best in MLB like Jaylen Brown did in the NBA. But Boston fans will need to be patient as Campbell continues to grow his game.
