Alex Smith Reveals His Thoughts On Aaron Rodgers’ Performance

Whenever the New York Jets play a game now, the first thing that will be talked about is how star quarterback Aaron Rodgers performed.

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - SEPTEMBER 09: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers #8 of the New York Jets looks to pass against the San Francisco 49ers during the second quarter at Levi's Stadium on September 09, 2024 in Santa Clara, California.

Despite losing 32-19 to the San Francisco 49ers in the first game of the season, Rodgers showed some moments of greatness here and there.

His old draft class buddy in former Pro Bowl quarterback Alex Smith recently chatted about Rodgers’ performance on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“He hadn’t played any football in like 22 months…I thought he looked good. I was encouraged,” Smith stated.

This right here is why Jets fans and the media might need to consider pressing pause on their overreactions.

Sure, Rodgers didn’t throw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns.

Sure, the Jets were dominated for most of the game.

But the four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion in Rodgers looked relatively comfortable and was able to build a connection with star wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Wilson was able to catch six passes for 60 yards on 11 targets.

Rodgers was even able to get his old Packer teammate Allen Lazard involved (six catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns).

Additionally, it actually might have been good for Rodgers to take a few hits and get knocked down on the ground by opposing defenders because it had been a long time since he had gotten hit.

The Jets are not going to play the 49ers every week either.

San Francisco is arguably the best team in the league and possibly the biggest threat to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Look for Gang Green and Rodgers to look improved as the season moves along.
