Alvin Kamara doubles down on his commitment to Saints after strong Week 1 performance

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, coming off a good Week 1 performance, continues to make it clear he wants to remain with the team.

Alvin Kamara and his future with the New Orleans Saints became somewhat of a storyline this offseason. Essentially playing on the final year of his contract, the running back was hoping to get some type of restructured deal or extension this offseason but that didn’t happen. Still, he showed up to training camp and prepared for a season where he’ll be the focal point of the offense.

On Sunday, the NFL world got their first taste of the Saints new offense, and they looked good. Just as new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak explained, everything was built around the rushing attack. Alvin Kamara led the way with 15 carries for 83 yards and one touchdown. He also added five receptions for 27 yards.

It was Kamara’s 50th career game with 100 or more yards from scrimmage. That was annouced in the stadium and the crowd gave the veteran running back a ton of love. Following the game, he gave love back to the fans, expressing how much the city means to him.

Kamara emphasized how much he loves New Orleans and its people and how he and the fans essentially view each other as family. With the support he gets from fans, he said it’d be kind of selfish for him to not come out with his teammates and go hard for all the people behind them.

Alvin Kamara expresses his love for New Orleans

This statement of course comes with the backdrop of Kamara’s contract situation, and the fact that he recently listed a New Orleans property for sale— something he characterized as just a real estate move. With all of that in the minds of fans, Kamara doubled down on his commitment to the Saints on Sunday, saying he wants to be here.

This isn’t the first time he’s made it clear he doesn’t want to play football anywhere else. When he reported for training camp, and openly discussed his contract and standing with the team, he pretty much said he’ll retire whenever his time with New Orleans ends.

Hopefully, that’s no time soon. Kamara still looks great, and in Kubiak’s offense, he could have one of the most productive seasons of his career if he stays healthy. If that happens, he’ll surely get a contract that keeps him around for a few more years.
