The Detroit Lions are the two-time reigning NFC North champions, and head coach Dan Campbell has regularly referred to the balance between still being a hunter while now being the hunted. So far this offseason, two of their division rivals have been among the most active teams in the league in terms of spending money.
The Chicago Bears got a head start on that, agreeing to terms on two trades to fortify their offensive line before the "legal tampering period" started (guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson). The first day of free agency brought the completion of a new interior offensive line trio with news of a deal of center Drew Dalman, followed by two additions to the defensive line (Dayo Odeyingbo, Grady Jarrett).

Former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson clearly wants to fashion the Bears in the image of the team he left.
The Bears also had money to spend, with quarterback Caleb Williams on a rookie contract. Time will tell if it works out, they deserve credit for aggressively addressing needs with their cap space. Meanwhile, as generally expected, the Lions have had a far quieter start to free agency outside of agreeing to terms with cornerback DJ Reed.
Amon-Ra St. Brown has NSFW reaction to Bears' free agency aggression
This week's episode of the "St. Brown Podcast" came out on Tuesday, rather than it's typical Wednesday. Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had plenty to say about what the Bears have done so far this offseason.
“Bro I feel like the Bears have unlimited f**king money,” Amon-Ra St. Brown told his brother, Equanimeous. “This sh*t’s crazy. They’re just signing new sh*t for like 40, 50 million dollars. Joe Thuney. Boom. Jonah Jackson. Bang. Drew Dalman. Bang. Dayo . . . Odeyingbo, another I saw . . . a crazy amount of money. Grady Jarrett. Bang. They’re just breaking everybody off. . . . They have unlimited money. What the f**k is this? . . . Ben’s just making moves, left and right. I'm just like, 'f**k."
The added layer of Johnson now being the Bears' head coach may have prompted St. Brown to say what he said about what they've done. The Lions are also where the Bears want to be. So "unlimited money" aside, the "Sun God" shouldn't really be surprised about the aggressiveness of Chicago's front office.
