"An Interesting Stop In Between": Daryl Dixon Season 3's New Location (Not Spain) Hinted At By Creator

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon creator David Zabel hints at season 3's new location other than Spain, calling it "an interesting stop in between." Set after the events of the original series, the spinoff follows Norman Reedus' titular crossbow-wielding character as he washes ashore in France, the origin of the zombie outbreak, and as he attempts to return home, forms connections with new characters along the way. Season 2, subtitled The Book of Carol, features the return of Melissa McBride, and Daryl Dixon season 3 has already been confirmed and is currently filming in Spain.

How Walking Dead season 10 sets up a potential romance for Daryl

During an interview with Collider, David Zabel hinted at Daryl Dixon season 3's new location other than Spain. The creator says "there is an interesting stop in between France and Spain" and hinted that it involves Stephen Merchant's character. Read Zabel's full comments below:

Eventually, it's in Spain, but there is an interesting stop in between France and Spain that's pretty cool and exciting. Stephen Merchant is in the first episode and plays a very interesting character that we come across towards the beginning. Then, in Spain, we have a totally different vibe from France, which is really cool. We get into a little bit of a Western vibe, a little bit of a spaghetti Western vibe, and the colors are different. It’s sandy, it's dusty, and it’s windy, and we're in this town that's very complicated. We have an amazing cast of Spanish actors. Really great cast.

Why It's Likely England

So far, the first two seasons of Daryl Dixon have been set in France, though the third season, which is currently filming, will be set in Spain. However, creator David Zabel says "there is an interesting stop in between France and Spain" and hinted that it involves Stephen Merchant's character. Most likely, this means it's England since Daryl Dixon season 3 set photos have shown a London setting, indicated by details like a red double-decker bus, a classic British phone booth, and a Trafalgar Square sign. Additionally, Stephen Merchant is an English actor.

With the Daryl Dixon season 2 finale set to air on November 3, it's currently unclear why Daryl and Carol will make a stop in England before Spain, where the majority of the season will likely be set. The upcoming season 2 finale should provide some hints as to why they make a stop in England. Daryl still intends on returning to Alexandria, so perhaps England and Spain are both simply stops he makes along the way home to the United States.

Our Take On Daryl Dixon Season 3's New Locations

They Should Introduce New Dynamics

Daryl Dixon season 3's shift to England and then Spain should introduce new dynamics. England's unique post-apocalyptic landscape, including a new character played by Stephen Merchant, should offer exciting twists, while Spain's rugged "spaghetti Western" vibe should also introduce its own distinctive challenges. This blend of unfamiliar terrain, local survivors, and cultural shifts should push Daryl and Carol into plenty of uncharted territory, introducing a richer and more layered version of Europe that expands beyond France.
