Andy Reid just gave an update on Rashee Rice as the Kansas City Chiefs report to training camp. While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the Chiefs head coach was asked if he heard anything about Rice possibly being suspended by the NFL.
“I haven’t heard anything at this point,” Reid said. The offseason hasn’t been a memorable one for Rice. The young wide receiver is facing eight charges related to a multi-car accident in March and was reportedly also a suspect in an assault that occurred at a Dallas nightclub in May.
Last month, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that Rice is facing a multi-game suspension from the NFL. “This is a lengthy legal process, which means he could start the season, actually play games or finish the whole year, because the league likes to see the full scope of things before they make a decision on how many games a player might face,” Fowler said. “We saw that with Alvin Kamara a couple of years ago when he had his battery charges. He played the whole year then was suspended for the next year. So that is a possibility that the Chiefs are bracing for here, they just don’t know.”
Fowler added: “He was an active participant in the Chiefs’ offseason spring workouts. I was told that was a safe haven for him. After all that he’s dealing with off the field, it was a relief for him to be on it. He was considered a consummate teammate while he was there. And now the Chiefs wait on a potential NFL suspension.”

Rice was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft and playing college football at SMU. He played in 16 regular season games and caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. In four postseason games, Rice tallied 262 yards and one touchdown on 26 receptions which is playoff rookie record.
“[We’re all] just trying to do whatever we can to teach him how to learn from his mistakes,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said about Rice in May, per Pro Football Talk. “Obviously, that was a big mistake. You get to learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again and try to do whatever you can to be the best person you can be in society, not only for yourself but for the people around you. I think he is doing that.”
