‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Star Grateful for CPR Training After Scare With Son

A former star from “Bachelor in Paradise” took to social media to spread an important message. Kevin Wendt, who met his now-wife Astrid Loch while filming season 5 of “Bachelor in Paradise,” recounted a scary situation that recently played out with one of his young sons.

Luckily, the little boy is okay, but Wendt wanted to take the opportunity to encourage other parents to ensure they are prepared by learning CPR.

Astrid Loch & Kevin Wendt’s Son Nash Started Choking

On May 10, Wendt shared a video on his Instagram page. He said it was a “Public Service Announcement” to “all parents of young children.

Wendt explained that the prior night, Loch had been bathing the couple’s two young sons. Suddenly, she screamed for Wendt, and he went up to see the pair’s younger son, Nash, purple and not breathing.

“When I say it was the scariest minute of my whole life, I’m not exaggerating,” Wendt revealed of the frightening experience.

When Wendt got to the upstairs bathroom in the family’s home and saw Nash, he grabbed him out of the water and put him over his knee. Then, he gave Nash 10 hard blows on the back.

Nash appeared to be choking, and the couple later figured out that he was choking on his own saliva.

“I had to give him chest compressions before I could get any breath into him,” Wendt recalled.

Wendt, a fireman, has done CPR on children before, he noted. However, he added, they had never been children that he knew. “When it’s your own kid… it’s something I never thought I’d have to experience.”

The ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Alum Wants All Parents to Learn CPR

Despite the scare Nash gave his parents, he seems to be doing fine now. Wendt provided a “gentle reminder” that “everybody should be confident with CPR… especially if you have young children.”

Wendt cautioned, “You don’t want to be thinking, ‘Damn, I wish I would have done it’ when it’s too late.”

Loch commented on her husband’s post, “Nash is a little warrior.”

As Us Weekly noted, Wendt and Loch met during the summer of 2018 while filming “Bachelor in Paradise.” They split before filming wrapped, but reunited off-screen.

The couple got engaged in August 2019 and started wedding planning. They delayed their nuptials due to COVID-19, but welcomed their first son, August, after pursuing IVF.

August arrived in November 2021, and Wendt married Loch in October 2022. The couple’s second son, Nash, arrived in October 2023.
