Bad News Regarding Zyon McCollum?

So Bucs starting cornerback Zyon McCollum, the team’s best corner this season, left last week’s game against the 49ers with a hamstring injury.

Bucs' Zyon McCollum ready to turn potential into picks

Apparently, it was a situation he tried to play through unsuccessfully, per Todd Bowles.

Since then, the Bucs re-signed versatile defensive back Mike Edwards and fellow starting cornerback Jamel Dean says he ready to return to the lineup at full strength.

Today, the Bucs made another move in their defensive backfield, promoting cornerback Troy Hill to the active roster from the practice squad. (They also waived safety Kaevon “I’m Chasing You” Merriweather).

Yes, it’s that Troy Hill, the veteran of the BengalsRams, Browns and Panthers. He’s got 60 career starts at 33 years old.

So Joe has to wonder. Why promote Hill if McCollum’s hamstring is no big deal and healed over the bye week?

Unfortunately, Joe is assuming McCollum isn’t ready and Hill will be active on Sunday against the Giants.

Joe can’t claim to be an expert on Hill’s play, but Joe will guess there’s a solid chance he’s better than current backups Josh Hayes and Tyrek Funderburk.
