Baker Mayfield = Lamar Jackson

Don’t come at Joe with your hate. The numbers don’t lie.

NFL: Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson next lessons in paying QBs - Yahoo Sports

Let’s say, for whatever reason, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield didn’t re-sign in March and he bolted for greener pastures. And with a void at quarterback, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht didn’t just make a splash but rocked the football world by finding a way to acquire Crows quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Joe doesn’t think one Bucs fan would have been irked by this (except those who didn’t like the ransom Licht would have had to pay for Jackson). Jackson, a tremendous quarterback, is also the closest thing the NFL currently has to a deity in his prime. He just won his second MVP trophy.

Think about it: If anyone dares utter a discouraging word about Jackson, he or she is banished to the fires of hell by the NFL’s self-anointed thought police.

Yet, what if Joe told you the Bucs already have Jackson on the roster? Well, at least his production.

Joe always says — always — how the NFL is all about production. Former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter often said how the NFL is a “production league.”

Production, production, production. If you can’t produce, get the hell off the field and make way for someone who can.

So here are very interesting production numbers for you:

Jackson last year produced 29 touchdowns. He had 24 passing and 5 touchdowns on the ground. Not bad.

Mayfield, meanwhile, also produced 29 touchdowns. He threw for 28 and ran in a touchdown.

Joe isn’t exactly a math whiz but Joe’s pretty sure Mayfield’s numbers of touchdowns produced add up to the same amount as Jackson’s.

Yet Jackson can virtually do no wrong. Why, he’s a modern-day John Elway.

Yet Mayfield produced just as many touchdowns as the great Jackson. And Mayfield gets shat on by #NFLMedia left and right. Why is that?

(Oh, and ssshhh… Mayfield has as many playoff wins as Jackson, too. And Mayfield has half as many playoff losses as Jackson. Just keep that to yourself, will ya? Joe doesn’t want to see you get in trouble with the Mayfield haters, you know?)
