Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams led his team down the field on the final drive of the game to set up a game-winning field goal attempt for Cairo Santos, however, it was blocked, giving the Green Bay Packers a 20-19 win at Soldier Field.
Santos and the Bears lined up for a 46-yard field goal try after Williams led his team down the field for six plays and 42 yards. Packers defensive lineman Karl Brooks was able to get a finger on it, deflecting it just enough to give the Packers their seventh win of the season.
Chicago carried a 10-7 lead into halftime, showing an offensive improvement in the week following the firing of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
It's yet another heartbreaking loss for Chicago, it what likely could spell the end of the their season's playoff hopes in a tough NFC North division.
Williams looked confident against Green Bay, completing 23-for-31 passes for 231 yards and also rushing nine times for 70 yards. He was sacked three times, in comparison to being sacked nine times last week in a loss to the New England Patriots.
The Bears started the second half with a scoring drive that ended with a 27-yard field goal by Santos to give Chicago a 13-7 lead. However, Packers quarterback Jordan Love led the team on the ensuing drive down the field, ending on a seven-yard touchdown run by Josh Jacobs to put Green Bay up 14-13.
Williams and the Bears were ready for the challenge, though, as they went 11 plays and 78 yards down the field before D'Andre Swift took a carry 39 yards to the house to put the Bears back up 19-14. However, Chicago failed to convert on a two-point conversion, proving to be costly later in the game.
The Bears defense stood up the Packers on the following drive on fourth and goal, giving Chicago the ball with 11:19 remaining. The Bears were able to move the ball down the field on 12 plays for 44 yards on the ensuing offensive drive but had to punt with 4:27 remaining.
That was enough time for the Packers to respond, and they did so on four plays and 78 yards that included a 60-yard pass to Christian Watson to set up the Packers the Bears' 14-yard line. Two plays later, Love scored on a quarterback sneak to give Green Bay a one-point advantage. The Packers also failed to convert on a two-point conversion, setting the Bears up to get a field goal and a win against Green Bay for the first time since 2018.
The first two plays of the drive featured Williams being sacked, but a 16-yard completion to Rome Odunze and then a 21-yard completion to Odunze converted the Bears on fourth down. A 12-yard pass to Keenan Allen set up the Bears at the Packers' 30 yard-line and a Roschon Johnson rush for two yards set up the field goal try by Cairos.
It's another tough loss for Chicago, as they'll look to regroup in another NFC North matchup on Sunday as they host the Minnesota Vikings (8-2).
