Bella Ramsey’s Golden Globes look is uniquely brilliant for reasons threefold. The star of The Last of Us ignored the froth and fantasia of awards season and instead commissioned a Prada suit that is resolutely them; the minimalist actor worked with their favourite menswear department to realise their tailoring goals; and they eschewed inky black swatches in favour of a deep cerulean blue to spice up the suiting landscape inside California’s Beverly Hilton. Ramsey’s peppy military-esque jacket, slim-cut grey trousers and black stomper boots stand out as a thoughtful approach to eveningwear during the kick-off event of awards season 2024.
The 20-year-old Brit has Fabio Immediato to thank for their alternative approach to the traditional red-carpet tux. The meticulous researcher, who delved deep into Prada’s archive, took all the strictness of an incredible Prada suit, and injected enough “warmth” for it to qualify as a Bella Ramsey wardrobe moment. “Prada understands Bella’s aesthetic very well,” the stylist tells British Vogue of a perfect marriage that existed long before the 2024 Globes. “We always go through the menswear team, who have a very interesting approach to tailoring.” Instead of a classic blazer, then, the atelier crafted Ramsey a cropped boxy jacket inspired by a wool shirt (look 31) from the spring/summer 2023 collection, entitled Let’s Talk About Clothes – perfect for a budding fashion fan learning about Prada’s intellectual design references.
“Bella loves suiting,” continues Fabio, who met his client on a Hollywood Reporter shoot, for which he was styling their The Last of Us co-star, Pedro Pascal. They hit it off, with Ramsey understanding and respecting the work that goes into curating a single red-carpet look, and having the patience for the multiple fittings the “anal” (in his own words) Immediato likes to book in.
The aim is always based around the same directive: “I hope people will say Bella looks extremely cool and not overly ‘done’, that the look is loyal to their aesthetic and nothing they wouldn’t wear, and the overall image speaks to their personality above anything else.” Job done for this up-and-comer, who recently delivered a brilliant performance in Jimmy McGovern’s devastating prison drama, Time.
A healthy session in front of the mirror ensures Bella, a first-time Golden Globe nominee, looks like a fashion plate who knows their Miuccia references from their Raf ones (the two continue to partner on Prada’s output). “We always do some mock poses to work out which element of a look to emphasise and to see how a garment falls,” explains Immediato, who buzzes with enthusiasm about Ramsey. “It’s very rare to be able to find someone who understands the whole process from research to fitting.” Top marks for this promising talent, who is fearlessly forging their own path in Hollywood – and in fashion.
