The New England Patriots were widely questioned this past spring after the drafting of former North Carolina star Drake Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit.
Patriots GM Eliot Wolf decided to take the 6-foot-4, 223 pound quarterback over a litany of prospects considered to be of the "can't miss" variety including Marvin Harrison, Jr., Joe Alt, Malik Nabers and several others.
On Monday, longtime ESPN and independent sports talk personality Bill Simmons took to his X account to share his thoughts on Maye amid a record-setting Monday Night Football performance from Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston.
Simmons said what he has heard virtually every New England Patriots fan has been thinking recently amid Maye's recent string of promising performances.
"Feels like 30-35% of my texts right now have something to do with getting Drake Maye a GM, an offensive line, a #1 receiver, a defense, a head coach, and maybe even an owner," Simmons wrote on X.
"EVERY PATRIOTS FAN ABSOLUTELY LOVES DRAKE MAYE."
Maye threw for 238 yards on 24-of-30 completions against the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday while rushing five times for 59 yards including a long run of 59 yards.
He has completed over 67 percent of his passes on the season, although his 11 to 8 touchdown to interception ratio shows he still has plenty of work to do, and needs plenty of help, as the Patriots continue to navigate through a challenging season under first year head coach Jerod Mayo.
