Morgan Geekie’s growth in Boston should make him untouchable, even as offseason rumors start swirling.
The 26-year-old center was one of the few consistent contributors this season, and moving him now would do more harm than good.
This past season, the Boston Bruins unraveled in ways nobody saw coming. After a summer of aggressive moves, they stumbled to a 33-39-10 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Still, in a year filled with problems, Morgan Geekie managed to shine. And not just quietly. He stood out.
Over the course of 77 games, the 26-year-old hit career highs across the board, 33 goals, 24 assists, and 57 points.
For a forward who entered the season without much buzz, he more than delivered.
Chemistry with Pastrnak changed the narrative
One of the biggest reasons Geekie took off? His connection with David Pastrnak. The two clicked on the ice.
Their chemistry was real, and it gave Boston a forward combo that opponents couldn’t ignore—even when the team struggled overall.
Geekie grew more comfortable in big moments as the year went on. He started showing poise, confidence, and finish.
That didn’t go unnoticed.
He’s on the trade radar—but should he be?
Now that the offseason is here, Geekie’s name is coming up in trade talks. He’s featured on Chris Johnston’s board over at The Athletic and also shows up on Frank Seravalli’s list for Daily Faceoff.
And yes, his restricted free agent status and career year give him value. But the idea of shipping him out feels misguided.
This team has enough holes. Moving one of the few players who showed up every night doesn’t fix anything, it just creates another problem.
Don’t overthink this, Geekie earned his spot
He’s 6-foot-3, strong on the puck, and just entering his prime. His contract is manageable, and his production is trending up. That’s not someone you shop. That’s someone you keep.
Boston needs stability. Geekie gave them that. He also gave them hope—something this team didn’t have much of this year.
