The Boston Red Sox have surprised many this season but the one thing they had been lacking was a left-handed pitcher in their starting rotation. Today they found a way to address that as they have acquired LHP James Paxton from the Los Angeles Dodgers, in exchange for infielder Moises Bolivar.

LHP – James Paxton
Paxton is in his 11th season. He started with the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the New York Yankees , then he signed to return to Seattle before joining the Red Sox in 2022 where he rehabbed before pitching for them in 2023, and then in 2024 he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s made 174 career starts going 72-40 with a 3.76 ERA, a 3.61 FIP, a 1.25 WHIP, a 3.0 BB/9, and a 9.5 K/9 in 940 innings. This season with the Dodgers he’s made 18 starts going 8-2 with a 4.43 ERA, a 4.96 FIP, a 1.46 WHIP, a 4.8 BB/9, and a 6.4 K/9 in 89.1 innings. Last season with the Red Sox he made 19 starts going 7-5 with a 4.50 ERA, a 4.68 FIP, a 1.31 WHIP, a 3.1 BB/9, and a 9.5 K/9 in 96 innings. The Red Sox by acquiring Paxton now add a left-handed arm to their rotation.
INF – Moises Bolivar
Bolivar was playing for the Red Sox Dominican Summer League team. In 31 games he was hitting .270 with a .787 OPS; he had six doubles, one triple, three home runs, 19 RBI, 17 runs scored, 17 walks, and a stolen base.
