Brad Marchand makes surprising comment following Boston Bruins' fifth consecutive loss

The Boston Bruins are not giving management any reason to want to buy at the NHL trade deadline, and Brad Marchand's latest comments following their fifth consecutive loss suggests that they are going to be sellers.

Boston Bruins: Brad Marchand is the player to watch against Islanders

Since coming back from the 4 Nations Face-Off break, the Boston Bruins have lost all three of their games, and currently are riding a five-game losing streak.

Two of those losses since coming back from the break have been against non-playoff teams, and those are just games that they needed to win. These losses were to the New York Islanders and the Anaheim Ducks.

The other loss since the 4 Nations break was to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where the Boston Bruins ended up picking up a point by losing in overtime, but held a 3-0 lead on the Leafs late in the second period and ended up blowing it.

With the NHL trade deadline just one week away, it's arguably clear now that the Bruins should probably be sellers, and Brad Marchand's comments following their loss Thursday night confirmed it.

Marchand Stuns Fans With Comments Following Loss

After the game, Marchand met with the media and likely stunned fans with his comments.

Marchand stated that the Bruins may not achieve what they wanted to this season, but that doesn't mean they can't build on something for next season.

Unfortunately, it looks like the Bruins are going to miss the playoffs for the first time in eight years, and it's going to a different look for fans at the NHL trade deadline this year.

Matthew Poitras practices after scary looking injury

In the second period of the loss to the Islanders, center Matthew Poitras was checked by Brock Nelson into an open door at the New York bench. There are a lot of theories about whether it was intentional or not, but it was a scary looking injury to say the least. He was helped back to the locker room through the Islanders runway.

In a stunning development, Poitras was on the ice for practice on Friday morning at Warrior Ice Arena before the Black and Gold depart for a quick two-game road trip against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Wild. According to Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald, interim coach Joe Sacco said that Poiras made it through practice and is an option for Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh.

That would be very surprising if Poitras played after the hit. It was a dangerous one that could have knocked him out for a long time. Just the fact that he’s an option is pretty remarkable itself.
