Brandin Cooks has seen and done it all, but there is one more familiar act to be had for the age-31 wide receiver.
Brandin Cooks quietly joined Mike McCarthy as casualties at the end of the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 campaign. Cooks wrapped up two years with the team.
Overall, the difference between the two years was night and day. In 2023, Brandin Cooks logged 657 yards and eight touchdowns. In 2024, he logged less than half as many yards and touchdowns with 259 yards and three touchdowns.
However, despite the downturn, the wide receiver who was part of two losing Super Bowls teams managed to land with a franchise he’s familiar with.
According to Adam Schefter, Brandin Cooks received a two-year $13 million offer to rejoin the New Orleans Saints. He accepted and will be back in the city where he began his NFL career.
The Saints, of course, don’t have Sean Payton or Drew Brees anymore. Even Dennis Allen, who had served as the last key dreg of the Sean Payton coaching staff, has moved on. While the Superdome and the majority of the city will look familiar, Cooks will not be catching passes from Drew Brees. Instead, he will play with Derek Carr.
This will be the wide receiver’s fifth team change. After starting with the New Orleans Saints in 2014, Cooks left the team after just three years to join the New England Patriots despite back-to-back 1000-yard seasons. He logged 1000 yards with the Patriots including help to get the team to the Super Bowl.
However, he lasted just one year. After 2017, he made his way to the Los Angeles Rams, where he helped the team get to the Super Bowl to face the team he had just left behind. Despite more than 1700 yards in two seasons with the team, Cooks found himself on the move once again.
This time, he joined the Houston Texans. From 2020-2022, he stuck with the team long enough to deliver two 1000-yard seasons before departing. His most recent stop before joining the Saints was the Dallas Cowboys where he worked as the second string receiver behind CeeDee Lamb.
Now, he appears likely to work behind Chris Olave to potentially finish his tour around the NFL where it began.
