Brandin Cooks calls Dak Prescott criticism ‘blasphemy’

Brandin Cooks supports Dak Prescott ahead of the Dallas Cowboys’ season opener against the Cleveland Browns. While speaking with the media on Wednesday, the Cowboys veteran wide receiver shared his thoughts on the criticism Prescott receives.

“It’s blasphemy. It’s unbelievable,” Cook said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “The guy shows up every year, year in and year out. Putting up numbers, leading his team. He can’t do it all by himself. A lot of those great quarterbacks that I’ve been with, Tom (Brady) and Drew (Brees), don’t get me wrong, they won a lot of games, won a lot of Super Bowls, but they had a lot of help around them as well, right?”

Cooks added: “Us players around (Dak) also got to step up. So when we hear that disrespect, I take that personally and as his teammates we should take that personally, because at the end of the day, somebody has got to be able to help him get over that hump so we can go win one.”

Cooks’ comments come as Prescott wants a new contract with the Cowboys. The one issue could be the veteran quarterback has not been productive in the playoffs, and the Cowboys are looking to return to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1995 season.

After the Cowboys’ playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in January, Prescott didn’t hold back when talking about his performance. “I sucked tonight,” Prescott said, per Bleacher Report. “And that’s it. … It’s about winning, and winning in the playoffs.”

Cooks is entering his second season with the Cowboys and was productive with Prescott in 2023, catching 54 passes for 657 yards and eight touchdowns. In May, Cooks said Prescott should be Cowboys QB for a very long time.

“Indubitably. Absolutely. No question. I think … last year what he did, the first year of Mike McCarthy’s offense,” Cooks said on GoJo & Golic (per CBS Sports). For the longest he was MVP front-runner and then what I believe he finished second or third. And that was all done one year into Mike McCarthy’s offense. I think all he’s going to do is continue to get better, continue to lead and hit his stride. If you don’t do it now, in my opinion, it’s just going to cost that much later because he’s on a mission for sure.”
