"Brandon Aubrey Makes History and Earns NFC Special Teams Player of the Week"

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey played a huge role in the team's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week, going 4-for-4 with three field goals of over 50 yards and two from 58 yards in a 26-24 win. For his efforts, he's being rewarded.

On Tuesday, the NFL announced that Aubrey is the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. It's the first time this season and the third time in his career that he's earned the honor.

Aubrey's four field goals against the Buccaneers didn't just help deliver a win to the Cowboys, it allowed him to make history too. His 14 field goals of 50-plus yards in a season is a new NFL record, though one that is simultaneously at risk of being broken by Houston Texans kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn.

Fairbairn has 13 field goals of 50 yards or more with two games left to play. He could tie or even break the record as early as tomorrow.

Ironically, some Cowboys fans might be rooting against Aubrey to extend his record. Many were upset that the Cowboys defeated the Buccaneers this week, pointing out that the team was already eliminated from playoff contention and that winning any more games only serves to hurt their draft position at the 2025 NFL Draft in April.

But Aubrey's job is to make field goals and he's done a superb job of doing so this year. While his accuracy has taken a dip this year, going from 94.7-percent in 2023 to 85.7-percent in 2024, he's proven to have the strongest leg in the NFL today and many believe that he'll break the all-time record for longest field goal in short order.

The Cowboys still have two weeks of football remaining, which should be enough time for Aubrey to keep doing his thing and potentially improving on his NFL record.

One thing seems certain: The man is about to get the largest contract for a kicker in NFL history sometime in the near future.
