Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan is expectedly on the hot seat. That's what happens when a rookie head coach has a 3-13 record going into the final week of the regular season.
Recent reports, however, have indicated that Callahan is expected to be retained for the 2025 season. There is belief within the Titans organization that the team is improving, even if it's not showing up on the Sunday scoreboards.
Callahan was confronted with those reports during a Monday afternoon press conference and responded to rumors that he'd be back next season. Tennessee's head coach displayed confidence in the private conversations he has had with ownership.
"I'll keep those to myself. But yeah, I think that every conversation I've had has been positive," said Callahan about the talks he has had behind closed doors with ownership. "We have conversations that are needed to be had and that goes with Ran (Carthon) and Chad (Brinker) as well. I don't really pay much mind to those reports. I just come in and try to do my job as best I can and do it as long as they allow me to do it. And if for some reason at some point—hopefully it's years from now—that someone says we don't need your services anymore, then that's how it goes."
It's encouraging to know that Callahan, Carthon, and Brinker have all had conversations with one another about the future as well as conversations with Amy Adams Strunk about job security. This organization is heading for one of the biggest offseasons imaginable and unity is going to be essential.
The Titans are currently positioned with the 2nd overall pick int he 2025 NFL Draft and a golden opportunity to draft a franchise quarterback. Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward will both be highly sought after by QB-needy teams and Tennessee could end up with their pick of the litter.
As the Titans begin to prepare for the unveiling of a new stadium in 2027 and direct attention to the future of this team, the decision they make about the quarterback position will be essential. I want to see the Titans build around a talented young QB on a rookie contract. I want to see a GM and head coach who are on the same page about their draft picks and plan to supplement the existing roster, I want to see an owner who has patience and is willing to back those plans financially.
All of that can happen for Tennessee in the near future. All of that would lead to sustained success as an organization. But none of it can happen without communication.
Brian Callahan seems confident in what the future holds for him. All Titans fans can do is try to be confident as well.
