The Philadelphia Eagles could still add a veteran safety in free agency to start alongside Reed Blankenship after trading C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans. Sydney Brown is currently their projected starting strong safety. However, Brown hasn’t played much in his first two seasons, playing 25 regular-season games with six starts and only 414 total snaps.
The Philadelphia Eagles could target a 2x Pro Bowler

The Eagles could sign former Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons 2x Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons. Simmons spent the first eight years with the Broncos, including three of his last five under former head coach and current defensive coordinator of the defending Super Bowl Champions, Vic Fangio. He spent 2024 with the Atlanta Falcons, recording 62 tackles, two TFLs, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections in 16 starts, showing he still has gas left in the tank.
He’s interested in reuniting with Vic Fangio in Philly

During an appearance on the Up & Adams Show on Tuesday, Justin Simmons was asked about his relationship with Vic Fangio and Christian Parker and whether it tilts the scale as he remains a free agent and is looking for a new team to sign with. Simmons responded that being familiar with Fangio and Parker does tilt the scale, and he seems interested in joining Philadelphia. Here’s what he had to say:
“It really does. As honest as I can be, a lot of it too, going back to your question earlier about Atlanta, there was a lot of new, right? There was a new system, there’s a new way to do it,” Simmons said. “Going to Philly with Vic, you know exactly what you’re getting out of me and I know exactly what I’m getting out of them. Because I’ve been in the system. I still have a ways to go to mastering it but there’s some things and nuances that I know that Vic likes, that I know that Christian Parker likes. I think I could really help in that area.
“Obviously, them moving on from C.J. (Gardner-Johnson) and what he’s poured into that city there is big shoes to fill. But I love what they have going on with (Reed) Blankenship and the rest of the supporting cast there. So I don’t know. It’s interesting. I’m excited to see what happens.”
