Brock Purdy slander seemingly never ends after anonymous NFL survey

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has had to battle false narratives surrounding him pretty much ever since he took over as the team's starter back in 2022.

A recent anonymous NFL survey just reinforces that.

An ESPN anonymous survey of 70 NFL executives, coaches, and scouts resulted in Purdy being excluded from the top 10 of NFL quarterbacks. It seems like the Purdy slander will truly never come to an end.

The survey had the following ten quarterbacks as the top 10 in the NFL:

1. Patrick Mahomes
2. Josh Allen
3. Joe Burrow
4. Lamar Jackson
5. Jayden Daniels
6. Matthew Stafford
7. Justin Herbert
8. Jared Goff
9. Jalen Hurts
10. Baker Mayfield.

Some of these quarterbacks are unquestionably higher on the totem pole than Purdy, but one could easily argue for Purdy over Stafford, Herbert, Goff, and Mayfield. Yet, three of those guys were taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, so of course, they are superior to Purdy, who was taken with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, because to admit otherwise would be scouts admitting that they were so wrong on the Iowa State product.

Nonetheless, Purdy certainly got paid like a top-10 QB with his massive five-year, $265 million contract extension. Yet, Purdy seems confident enough to know he does not have to be a different guy now that he has a new contract, which is the exact advice a recent NFL MVP gave him. Purdy's teammates think he has the ability to elevate his game after his contract, which shows they have trust in him which matters a heck of a lot more than some anonymous executives.

Not all analysts are down on Purdy, but it definitely seems like there has always been resistance to the notion that Purdy is actually a good quarterback. Instead, his success has always been attributed to the weapons he has around him which is a logic that has not been applied equally to other quarterbacks.

Yet, it is important to take a note out of Purdy's book and laugh off the critics. Some are just laughable, like those that claim Purdy is the worst quarterback in the NFC West.

The 49ers know what they have in Purdy which is why they ensured he will be a Niner for a long time. They have a guy who nearly helped lead them to a Super Bowl and the hope is he can get them back there again and get the job done.
