Brock Purdy was far from perfect as the San Francisco 49ers righted the ship with a routine win over the New England Patriots.
He only completed 55.6 percent of his passes and threw a bad fourth quarter endzone interception while going for 288 yards and a touchdown in the Niners' 30-13 victory.
The completion percentage, by far his worst of the season, owed somewhat to Purdy attempting more deep shots than usual in part due to the depth of the Patriots' safeties.
But Purdy still connected on several of those deep shots, hitting on four pass plays of over 30 yards, with his performance in his 25th regular-season start enough to leave his career passer rating at a hugely impressive 112.6.
Purdy's passer rating is the highest in NFL history for a quarterback across his first 25 starts, the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft narrowly surpassing the man to whom he lost in Super Bowl 58, Patrick Mahomes (112.5).
Additionally, Purdy also leapfrogged Jeff Garcia (6,470) for the most passing yards by a 49ers quarterback in their first 25 starts in franchise history, his efforts against the Patriots taking him to 6,508. He leads the NFL in passing yards with 1,130, putting him on course to easily beat his own franchise record for the most in a single season, which he set last year with 4,280.
Purdy will care little about those achievements, but they serve to further illustrate the remarkable trajectory on which he remains. Week 4 was not vintage Purdy, but most of what he has produced in his first 25 starts suggests there will be many more performances and NFL and franchise records to celebrate throughout an improbable pro career.
